Dev Log 15

this is our final dev log for Cozy Farms !!!!

We as a team want to reflect on our experience and thoughts about this project such as what did we learn, what went well and what would we do differently.

This project has been a huge learning experience for me. I mainly worked on Assets and Production planning. With Assets, I learned more about 2D animations and good character design. Production planning I learned that not every goal/idea is achievable and that’s okay, understanding how much time is takes to implement more complex mechanics and want game design aspects are important/come first. These learning experiences came from working with my teammates and the multiple playtests during the duration of  Cozy Farms development.

What went well is the playtest feedback, I understood a lot more about game development through these playtests and understanding what the games audience look for and their expectations.

What I would do differently is learning how to communicate more with my teammates. I feel like I lacked these skills at the beginning at the project and found it difficult to keep up with the project's progress at the start. Over time I learned how to ask the questions for the answers I need during studio time and playtest and I should of dedicated more time aside for studio times and progress meetings.

I learned a lot during the process of this project, I mainly focused on the art side of things with asset design, I feel like my skills with design and art have improved during this project, I think the design aspect of the project went well although I had to re do a few assets to keep the style consistent, over all the coding seemed to be rather tough for the project and I think it was more technical than expected which caused a delay in progress for the group.

in the future I think we will consider our available skills and scope more before deciding on a definite approach. I think each member of this group has put in a lot of effort with their roles and responsibilities for the project and they should be proud of what they have accomplished so far.

For this project, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and work in unity and doing the code instead of my usual role of art assets. This was a huge learning curve for me as I have not done much coding in the past, but working on this project really helped me understand unity, and the process of understanding and writing code. Personally, (albeit its not the best) I am proud of the work I have done for this project, and it has given me a genuine interest in code.

The toughest part of this project was having to cut down our scope, due to my limited abilites. I had to learn how to prioritize different parts of the game in order to make it function as intended. In the future, I would consider more the skillset each individual teammember has, and make accruate scopes and more organization (on my behalf). I am grateful to my teammates and all the effort it took to get this game to where it is now, and we should all be proud of our little farming simulator:)
